TRA News Now - Paid Sick Leave Update

In our latest TRA News Now, we have updates for paid sick leave ordinances in both Austin and San Antonio. The Austin ordinance, the first of its kind in Texas, would have allowed employees to accrue up to 64 hours of paid sick leave annually, imposing significant costs and reporting complications to Austin businesses and restaurants. The San Antonio ordinance was passed on August 16 but the mayor has pledged to hold a stakeholder process to work on proposed changes. TRA & TRAEF Introduce New 2018-19 Officers

The new slate of Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) and Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation (TRAEF) leaders took office at the annual meeting of TRA Marketplace, July 15-16 in San Antonio, Texas with San Antonio restaurateur Jimmy Hasslocher, president and chief executive officer of Hasslocher Enterprises, Inc., taking the helm as TRA president.  Jessica Delgado, McAllen restaurateur and co-owner of SALT – New American Table and house. wine. & bistro., took office as chair of the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

Many TRA members have been inquiring about straws because their customers have been asking questions about them. The restaurant industry is facing increasing pressure from environmental and consumer groups to curtail, or even ban the use of single-use plastic straws.
