TRA Celebrates Passage of HB 2127, the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act

HB 2127 by Rep. Burrows and Sen. Creighton fuels economic growth by preventing a patchwork of conflicting, costly regulations.

AUSTIN, TX (May 19, 2023) –
The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) has released the following statement:

The Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) is tremendously grateful to both chambers of the Legislature, House and Senate leadership, and our champions Representative Burrows and Senator Creighton for passing HB 2127, the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act. HB 2127 is the product of a bi-partisan, multi-session effort to create regulatory consistency and predictability for local businesses while protecting local governments’ ability to respond to truly local needs. The TRA spearheaded this historic effort with groups representing every sector of the economy.

Texas restaurants have persevered through a very difficult three years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and inflation. The State of Texas cannot reverse these events or the significant costs they’ve created, but the State can help businesses rebuild and grow by ensuring we have a single, predictable set of regulations to govern our statewide economy. HB 2127 finally delivers on this promise for the State’s 53,000 foodservice businesses.

Rep. Burrows, Sen. Creighton, and leaders from both chambers have been incredibly thoughtful in shaping HB 2127 throughout the legislative process. We’re sincerely grateful for their dedication, and we look forward to celebrating the bill becoming law with Governor Abbott’s signature.
